This course meets all requirements under California Assembly Bill 2473 (AB 2473), which mandates specific core competency training for SUD counselors. AB 2473 ensures that all certified counselors demonstrate proficiency in the 12 core functions before entering the field.

Course Overview

This comprehensive 80-hour module covers the full spectrum of case management in substance use disorder counseling. Students master the 12 core functions of SUD counseling through practical application, role-playing, and task simulations. The course emphasizes hands-on competency development in screening, intake, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, reports and record keeping, consultation, and aftercare planning. This module is fully compliant with California Assembly Bill 2473 (AB 2473) requirements.

In-depth review of Domains I–IV and associated job tasks
Initial intake and case management: administrative requirements for admission
Interpersonal dynamics and potential influence of client behaviors
Signs and symptoms of physical disabilities; assessment of potential violence and self-harm
Comprehensive intake: alcohol and drug history, vocational, cultural, educational background, lifestyle, living situation, medical history
Strengths and weaknesses assessment for treatment plan development
Orientation: program goals, rules of conduct, infractions, services, costs, and client rights
